About Me: Tumbling into Fitness with a Side of MS

Welcome to Fit and Fumbles, the brainchild of yours truly, Alex. This isn’t just any blog. Oh no, it's a glorious mash-up of ambition, the occasional faceplant, and a whole lot of living with multiple sclerosis. Imagine trying to master the art of yoga and ending up resembling a pretzel with an identity crisis, or giving boxing a shot and realizing the air is somehow winning. That's the kind of content you're in for.

Here, I dive headfirst into the wacky world of working out with a chronic illness. Why, you ask? Because if my gym misadventures can bring a smile to your face or inspire you to give fitness a shot (even if it's just lifting the TV remote more vigorously), then my job here is done.

The Plot Twist

Before MS, my idea of a workout was a brisk walk or playing some just dance. But when MS waltzed into my life, it flipped the script. For a lot of years I struggled. I was diagnosed when I was just 19. I became over medicated and just went through the motions. Accepted that my days of being physical were numbered so why even try. Then I became a mom. It took me a long time(much longer than I care to admit) to realize that not only only was I missing out on life, but doing a great disservice to my kids. They deserved a mom that did whatever it took to keep it going. So I decided to change. I began my research, reading up on things like neuroplasticity, spacticity and of course, trying to figure out if yoga pants were a socially acceptable substitute for actual pants (spoiler: they are).

The Accidental Athlete

So, how did a couch enthusiast become the somewhat athletic, plant-embracing, yoga-doing, boxing-throwing individual I am today? Through a series of comical misadventures and the stubborn refusal to let MS dictate my life's pace. I started small: yoga sessions that looked less like serene poses and more like a toddler’s interpretation of interpretive dance. Then I took up boxing, not because I fancied myself as the next Rocky, but because punching things felt surprisingly therapeutic.

"Fit and Fumbles": The Blog That Gets It**

This blog is my little corner of the internet where I share the ups, downs, and sideways of trying to stay fit with MS while being outsmarted by preteens who think they know everything because, apparently, Google exists.

Here's what you can expect from "Fit and Fumbles":

  • Fitness tips for the chronically fabulous: How to work out when your body's idea of a fun time involves randomly deciding that coordination is optional.
  • Nutrition advice that understands life: Yes, we all want to eat healthily. But some days, the greatest achievement is remembering to drink water instead of coffee.
  • Parenting preteens without losing your sanity (mostly): My stories of navigating mood swings, maintaining your cool, and the art of the subtle eye-roll.
  • MS and me: Keeping it real with multiple sclerosis. Having the magical ability to drop things with flair and trip over flat surface full of moments when the only appropriate response is a laugh or a face-palm.

What You'll Find Here

Expect tales of triumph (finally nailing that yoga pose without toppling over), tales of woe (discovering muscles I never knew I had, in the most painful way possible), and everything in between. If you've ever wondered whether it's possible to laugh your way through a workout or use humor as a secret weapon against chronic illness, you're in the right place.

So, whether you’re here for the fitness tips, the MS hacks, nutrition that get’s the people going or just in need of a good laugh, you’re in the right place. Together, we’ll navigate the messiness of health and wellness, proving that fitness and fumbles are indeed two sides of the same coin.

I promise to keep it real, keep it funny, and maybe, just maybe, help you find your own path to wellness. After all, life doesn't come with a manual, especially not for those of us juggling chronic illness.
